Dominique Pieters
Dominique is the founder and creative director of planopli. She is an architect by training, author, and architecture journalist for (inter)national magazines. Previously, she was artistic director of Archipel and taught at TU Delft and KU Leuven.
Even during her architecture studies, Dominique organized study trips for students and teachers in Europe. She expanded that experience over the past twenty-five years: architecture trips for magazine subscribers, for the Archipel association, for the Flemish Government Architect, the Flanders Architecture Institute, Archimundo, and for firms such as Robbrecht en Daem architects and engineering firm Mouton.
After her experience as an editor at A+ , Dominique shifted her focus to the Dutch architecture magazine de Architect in The Hague, where she worked as editor-in-chief and editor of technology and architecture — and during that period lived in Rotterdam. Afterwards, her connection with the Netherlands continued through a guest lectureship at TU Delft and freelance writing assignments for magazines such as Frame, Mark, A10 and de Architect.
Her training as an architect, her sharpness as a journalist, and her experience as a teacher come together in the way she composes travel programs and guides groups. The result: architecture that you see, hear, feel, smell, and taste on site; knowledge that she gathers and passes on; a search for places and encounters that you will not find elsewhere — together with a team that shares that same curiosity.
