Guy Mouton

Guy Mouton

Guy is an engineer-architect and mainly active as a structural engineer, with his own design office specialized in structural design. In addition, he is affiliated with Ghent University and KU Leuven, where he focuses on the integration of structure and architecture.

Guy began his academic career as an assistant lecturer at Ghent University, where he was involved in the architecture studios within the engineer-architect program and guided students in their design process. He later became a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture of KU Leuven, Sint-Lucas Ghent campus, where he taught structural theory.

His teaching evolved toward an integrated approach to design, in which structure and architecture are considered as one whole. This led to his involvement in the design studios for the final project, where he collaborated with, among others, Paul Robbrecht, Marie José Van Hee and Klaas Goris. Together with Klaas, he also supervises an elective course on poetic structures and structural poetry, in which the interaction between technical logic and architectural expression is central. In the 2016-2017 academic year, he was also briefly a guest lecturer at UCL, Saint-Luc campus in Tournai.

In addition to his academic activities, Guy Mouton gave lectures in Belgium and abroad and served on various architecture juries. Parallel to his teaching career, he built up his own design office, specialized in structural design, through which he contributed to a range of projects in collaboration with other architecture firms.

Among the projects he contributed to are the Port House in Antwerp (Zaha Hadid Architects), the De Krook library in Ghent (RCR Arquitectes and Coussée Goris Huyghe architects), and the Exhibition, Meeting and Congress Centre in Bruges (Eduardo Souto de Moura and META architects). The renovation of De Grote Post in Ostend, the Het Zwin nature park in Knokke-Heist, and several interventions in the Plantentuin in Meise are also among his projects.
