To respond to the many artistic requests from external organisations, but also to develop their own artistic initiatives, Griet, Tijl, Wouter and Pol De Moyer are currently building a multipurpose space on the site of their parental home and home in Geraardsbergen. Before the opening of Peter’s Gallery on 2 May, an art and architecture walk in the/their city will take place.
In order to respond to the many artistic requests from external organisations, but also to develop their own artistic initiatives, Griet, Tijl, Wouter and Pol De Moyer are currently building a multipurpose space on the site of their parents’ house and home, between St Bartholomew’s Church and the Vesten of Geraardsbergen.
Griet and her brothers were immersed in art by their parents from an early age. Not just because of the family connection with Jan Hoet and Michael Borremans… the fascination has always been there thanks to dad Peter who, during his lifetime, was very attentive to art and to the personal connection with artists.
A few years ago Griet and her brothers opened the cultural café t_he Preacher_ in Geraardsbergen where, among others, Jan van Imschoot realised a mural of boxer Cyriel Delannoit in the beautiful art deco building renovated by Marcel architects. Thanks to the very intense cooperation with the music department of the nationally acclaimed academy of Geraardsbergen, the café blossomed into ‘the place to be’ for local academy students and big(er) names in the Flemish music world.
As a tribute to their father, Peter’s children want to give mainly Belgian artists the chance to show their talents to the general public in Peter’s Gallery. In doing so, they consider local anchoring very important with a focus on artists from their own region. Once again, a collaboration with the academy is planned, this time with the fine arts department.
Starting from Peter’s Gallery, various cultural walks will also start that engage the city with art and culture in order to intertwine with the environment as well as its history, present and future. For this, _Peter’s Gallery _is collaborating with planopli.
The gallery opens on 2 May and on that day, on the one hand, a workshop with children will be organised and, on the other hand, (for parents) an art and architecture walk in the/our city will take place.
